Writing On The Range

Three Thin Wires

Three thin wires
Separate me from
You

Each morning out my kitchen window view
My horses gather to greet yours at the
Three thin wires
Separating me from
You

Occasionally we meet on each side of the line
To re-stretch those
Three thin wires
Separating me from
You

As we tackle each fence line chore
We talk about our families, rain
4H steers and the coffee at the feed store

Trucks, tractors and rivers blue
The last rodeo, the county fair
And the best horses we ever knew

Late one cold afternoon
We agreed on a new plan for
The three thin wires
Separating me from
You

Come summer time
When the sun stays up late
We will cut those wires
And hang a shiny new gate
